Hoya invests in Mississauga
Wednesday, January 25, 2012
The investment, the exact amount of which is secret though it is said to be in the “seven-figure” range, will help add equipment used in the manufacture and quality control of advanced freeform lenses. HOYA Vision Care Canada president David Pietrobon told ClipInfo.ca that this investment will allow the company to expand the facility’s capacity and increase production volume. The facility will therefore soon produce the range of iD (Integrated Design FreeForm) and iQ (TrueForm™) products.
This investment is part of a plan to ensure HOYA has multiple supply points for its advanced products, says David Pietrobon. “This plan was in place before the floods struck in Thailand, and now we are implementing the Canadian part.” In 2011, two of HOYA’s facilities in Thailand were damaged by floods, thus restricting or temporarily interrupting the availability of certain products.
